Chat Monitors:
It should be known that anyone who claims to be a Monitor, Worker, Officer or Friend of the
Owners of Chatalot should be ignored!!!
There are NO Monitors in any of the chat rooms currently, unless otherwise posted on the room entry page.
Role Playing Rooms, FAQ Pages and Room Admins:
All Role Playing rooms have a subtitle at the room entrance, similar to this:
"This is an All Ages role playing room." or "This is an Adult 18+ role playing room."
Role Playing rooms are not owned by anyone, but when a Role Playing group or clan takes over a room, a FAQ page is linked to the entrance of the room. The players of these rooms ask that you read and observe the guidelines and rules stated in the FAQ page while inside the room.
Some Role Playing rooms only allow IC (In Character) Public posts, and will ask you to keep OOC (Out of Character) post in Private (PM).
The same goes for a message board associated with that room. Some room boards only allow IC (In Character) posts, OOC (Out of Character) posts may be taken down.
Some Role Playing rooms have room Admins. Room Admins are authorized to use the Boot Tool to ban a Handle that is disrupting the Role Play. The ban can be for days, weeks, months or years. It is advised that the Boot only be used as a last resort. The public and private Ignore features inside every room should be used to block any unwanted posts.
The General Guidelines for Chatalot are stated in the Chatalot "Bill of Rights"... any problems, use the
"Ignore" feature... if the problem persists - beyond the ignore button, contact us using the link at the top of the page.
Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

Using HTML plus an Image in your Handle:
(For the best results, DO NOT use "..." DOUBLE QUOTES in your Image Handle... see example below.)
example code:
<CENTER>
<img src=http://www.chatalot.com/images/blue.gif border=0>
<BR>
<B><FONT FACE=Times New Roman SIZE=2 COLOR=red>Heather Queen of the Nile
<BR>
Wife of Ramses</FONT></B>
<P>
<I><FONT FACE=Arial SIZE=6 COLOR=blue>Ruler of the Underworld</FONT></I>
</CENTER>
output equals:
Heather Queen of the Nile Wife of Ramses
Ruler of the Underworld
What if I am being Harassed ?
In the unfortunate event that someone chooses to harass you, just check the little boxes
next to their handle, and you will not see anymore messages from them. Be sure to check
boxes under this symbol to ignore public messages and under this symbol to ignore private messages from this user. Then make sure your very next action is to post a message or click on the "Speak" or "Whisper" button to set your Ignore Feature... if you click on the "Get New Messages" button, you may disconnect the Ignore Feature. If they are still able to interfere with you in any way, here is the info we will need to
take any action:
The handle and ID number (this is the number that appears next to a handle while in the chat room)
of the person causing the problem should be the 'Subject heading' in an email sent to the address
below. In addition to the 'handle and ID number' we will need a copy of the page
that the harassment occurred on.
Please copy and paste the 'source' of the page
and send it to us using the link at the top of the page.
Chatalot Inc. respects the privacy of others, and we ask our users to do the same. Chatalot may, in appropriate circumstances and at its discretion, disable and/or terminate the accounts of users who may be infringing the privacy rights of others.
If you believe that your privacy has been violated in a way that constitutes harassment, or your rights have been otherwise violated, please provide Chatalot's Privacy Agent the following information:
- an electronic or physical signature of the person authorized to act on behalf of the individual or intellectual property interest;
- a description of the information or other intellectual property that you claim has been infringed;
- a description of where the material that you claim is harassment is located on the site;
- your address, telephone number, and email address;
- a statement by you that you have a good faith belief that an individual has made unauthorized use of your identity, intellectual property, its agent, or the law;
- a statement by you, made under penalty of perjury, that the above information in your Notice is accurate and that you are the individual in question or the copyright or intellectual property owner or authorized to act on the copyright or intellectual property owner's behalf.
Chatalot's Agent for Notice of claims of privacy violation, electronic harassment, copyright or other intellectual property infringement can be reached by using the contact link at the top of the page. Please make the subject read: Attn: copyrights/privacy.
Ignore Outside Messages
When chatting you may receive messages from people that are looking at the Live List. To disable this feature: select >>Set Options >>Check the check box next "Ignore Outside Messages", select >>Done, then continue to chat.
Configure Your Experience!
You may choose to "Configure" any room by choosing to ignore certain people and only see
messages posted from those you choose. To select a group of friends in a room, simply check the Private Message box next to their names. Check the IGNORE box next to everyone's name that you do not wish to share a conversation with.
To keep the boxes checked and carry on a conversion with the same people in private, be sure to click on the "Speak" button after you check the Private message box. If you click on "Get New Messages" or use the Express Public Message Box, your selections will not be stored.
PM Error Message:
When you log in, use a short name without HTML in the grey pop up box, then use HTML in your Handle on the Room entry page. Your HTML must be correct with closing tags included, or you'll have trouble with Private Messages.
BEWARE: If your Handle is composed with very complex HTML you will have problems with the PM system. There is a link to the Bug Report in each room, please use it to send us a note if you have a problem.
If you are receiving an Error Message after trying to send a PM (private message) to someone... chances are that you are using an Image in your Handle. We have found that if you eliminate the "..." Double Quotes from around the source code of your Image's URL, this may solve the problem. There have been reports that this problem is most prevalent in Microsoft IE 5 and Web TV browsers.
WebTV Version 1.5 of the CustomChat Software is WebTV friendly in the "Manual" chat mode, not the "Real Time" mode, due to the way webTV deals with frames.
AOL Users accessing Chatalot will need to use the Internet Explorer browser instead of the AOL. You can log on to AOL and then minimize the window. Click on the blue "E" which should be on your desktop to open Internet Explorer. Type in www.chatalot.com and you will have a normal experience in Chatalot.

Time Out/Ghosted:
There is a ten minute grace period for inactivity, then your handle will be removed from
the room to make space for another person.
Occasionally we will restart the server, when we do, you will be ejected from the room:-(
The good news
is that you will be brought right to the entry page of the room you were in, and
your handle will already be in the text area! All you have to do to re enter is hit the "enter" button.
Microsoft Browsers:
Some versions of *MSIE 3.0 will not allow use of the "Express Public Message" option.
Due to the way Microsoft deals with cache. You may want to set your cache to verify documents
"Every Time", or upgrade to IE 4.0 or better.

Room Creator FAQ:
How do I Edit My Private Room?
Using the Creator to create a private room, and having Admin privileges to edit the room in the future:
When you create a new private room using the Creator, it is important to know
that when you are finished creating the room and you click on the
"Create My Chatroom" button, you are doing two things. Essentially you are creating a new chat room,
also you are logging into a chat room.
If the little gray login box pops up and asks you for a "User Name" and "Password",
then it is like you are logging into a chat room for the first time.
Your login info is the key; the program will recognize you as the Admin to that room.
In the future it will allow you to come back in and edit the room... so every time after that
you must log in using the exact same "User Name" and "Password" (CASE SENSITIVE) as you did
when you created the room, if you want Admin privileges to edit the room in the future.
Which means seeing the "Edit" button inside the room.
If you logged in to a another chat room prior to creating a room, then your login info,
"User Name" and "Password" are the key here as well. The same rules apply to the program recognizing
you as the Creator/Editor of that room.
How will my friends know I am here?
There is a great little FREE program you can use to let your friends know whenever you are at
Chatalot, it is called ICQ. It will let you send an instant message to everyone telling them
when and where to meet you! You can download a FREE copy of it here:
